Do You Own Our Rent Your House?

just wondering how many of you own or rent. Recently read somwhere (New York Times i believe) that it is almost always cheaper to rent.

yeah it's usually cheaper to rent... especially these days, because homes are going up in Canada. Where I live, in 2010 the olympics will be here, so homes are over 1 mil now. No one in my generation can afford a house now.

It MAY seem cheaper to rent, but I am a firm believer in the fact that if you move when you rent you start with NOTHING. If you sell and move and buy another house, you have your equity from the first house backing you up. Also, when you own, you can be sure repairs get done instead of waiting for a lazy landlord. If you have to be responsible for your own repairs, only you can be blamed for not doing them. I know repairs cost money. There is always give and take or pro and con in choosing rent or own.
