Default Are You A Pround Canadian?

Compared to American's i find that we are far less patriotic. Sure we're generally pround of wheere we live, but we don't flaunt or boast about it.

Are you a proud Canadian, do you show it?

I was an American until 1987 when I swore my Canadian citizenship. I was never a proud American, and presidents like George W. Bush make me proud to be a Canadian. I do find that Canada is far less political but I don't think it is so much less patriotic, if you know what I mean.

Yes, Canada is way less patriotic. A lot of it has to do with the fact that half of us dont give a damn. Canada is too many cultures attempting to unite under one banner. On top of that, we are not taught patiotism anymore. In all honesty how many times have you heard Oh Canada? Every year for rememberance day and at a hockey game other than that not so often. We to often forget how hard everyone worked so that we could have this country, how many thousands of soldiers died so we could be free. We forget what it means to be canadian, where we came from. Canada was founded on Christian Principals. Principlas like the ten commandments which most of our laws and morals are based on. "Don't steal, Don't lie (I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth when being sworn in to court) Don't cheat on your spouse ect.

I think that children should have to not only learn oh Canada, but sing it every morning at the beginning of school and they should have to study it. Pick it apart and learn what it really means. I'm rather patriotic.. one of those people who cries when they hear the national anthem because I know what it means.

Another reason for our lack of patriotism is that we don't have enough to be proud about (in comparison to the Americans) and the things that we SHOULD be proud about arn't rooted firmly enough into our education system and belifs.

We are ONE nation. No matter who it is that lives here. I wish the people who moved here and brought up their children here understood that. Many do, but many more don't. They moved here for a better life but aren't proud of it most of the time. I understand the rights of an individual but at the same time. THEY are moving to OUR country and should conform to THE COUNTRY'S LAWS insted of the COUNTRY conforming to them.

I found an interesting story that relates to this.

A woman wrote the best 'Letter to the Editor' in ages!! She cuts to the quick and explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Her letter said:

Recently, large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that parliament is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that Canada might actually want to protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, make it harder (as an illegal immigrant) to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these
protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Then, when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, 'I've made all the
beds and washed the dishes and done the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm
hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work) because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking-in part.

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my
friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my illegal right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do,
and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest,
um, except for well, you know. And what a deal it is for me!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my
keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me! English is too hard
for me to learn. You should also allow me to vote - in my own
language, since I live in your house!

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?

Only in Canada
